Purpose Driven

My mother once lectured in a Sunday school about God laughing at people (Psalm 2:4). "Why should I care if God laughs or not?", I asked myself. It didn't really made any sense back then. Probably because I had the wrong question in mind or somehow I could not make any sense of a laughing God. Few weeks ago, I heard a sermon regarding the universe and how big it is compare to the earth. The speaker said something that really amazed me he said, "If our solar system is a size of a quarter (coin) then the whole Milky way galaxy is the same size as the whole North American continent. It's that small (holding up the quarter in his hand)." Wow!!!! It blew my mind!!!

I thought to myself, all the bragging and all the accomplishments that I attained and I can ever attain amounts to nothing compared to the Milky way galaxy. How much more the whole universe?

No wonder God laughs looking at us. We probably look very funny when we try to lift ourselves up. We probably look funny when we try to brag and think we are larger than life. We probably look hilarious thinking that we are better than others. All these things are nothing compared to what God has done. We are so small in the light of the universe and the Bible says that, ...
God has measured off the heavens with his fingers?" (Isaiah 40:12)

God is very very very very HUGE and we are very very very small.

no wonder that the Psalmist wrote in Psalms 8:
3 When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers—
the moon and the stars you set in place—
4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them,
human beings that you should care for them?

Time Management - a misnomer

Time Management - a misnomer

We cannot manage time. Time passes by and we cannot stop it from flowing nor can we add or move time. Each of us has 24 hours a day, we cannot say, "I'll just spend 20 of my 24 hours today and add the remaining 4 to tomorrow so that I we will have extra 4 hours tomorrow." TIME SUBMITS TO NO MAN. We, therefore, cannot manage time, we can only manage our lives.

Book Review: The Choice by Og Mandino

I just finished reading The Choice by Og Mandino and I decided to write a brief review of the book.

As a fan of the author, Og Mandino, the story in this book sounds very familiar. As I am reading the book, I cannot help but think that this is really Og Mandino's life story. Of course, I know that he wasn't connected to an insurance company before he began writing his books but he was called Mr. Success (just like Mark Christopher, the main character of the story) because he was the editor-in-chief of Success Magazine.

As for the story, Og Mandino is a master in weaving his ideals into the stories that he makes and this book, The Choice is not an exception. The content was worth the time and if I have not heard these ideals in a recorded seminar then I am sure these ideals will surely blow my mind.

What I love about the book, was the intensity build-up made by the author. Og made sure that the reader cannot put the book down until it is over. I was caught between wanting to sleep and finding out what's behind the mystery of A.B. Salom.

The way Mark Christopher realized that he and his family didn't have much time together was so touching and it felt so personal. I then thought, what will happen when I will have a family of my own later in my life? Will I reach this kind of dilemma? Will I make these "hard" choices as well? And will my passion really produce success as Mr. Christopher had? It was amazing how these question keeps on popping out in my mind while reading this book. And something in my mind wants to read more in order to know how I can avoid reaching this dilemma but there was not answer to my question. Why? Because I believe that there will come a time when we are going to make the choice between career and family. A time will come where we need to define for ourselves what success is. And how we define success, will determine whether we choose our family or our career.

The book actually speaks more than just the two choice that I presented. Mark Christopher's last speech was also great but I heard this in a recording so this is not new to me. I had problem with the ending thought .:) It's not dramatic enough and it's a bit anti-climatic.

Ultimately, this book is a gem. Thanks Og for leaving us a book that we will cherish.

Heroes Happen {Here}

Few months ago, Microsoft Cebu invited us in Heroes Happen {here}
where they launched Windows Sever 2008, Microsoft SQL Server 2008, and Visual Studio 2008. I enjoyed the launching and was awed by new features for VS 2008 (codenamed: ORCA). We had great food and a photo shoot:

After a month of waiting, my photo was finally delivered via mail.

Thanks Microsoft Cebu!!!
Special thanks to Raymon, Charisse, Jay, and Rudyard from MS Cebu.

I got a comment from Mich:
"Is it true that their concert in Cebu will be moved in August? It's in their myspace and in their site. If so, what will we do with our tickets if we bought already?"

Here is my response:
Mich,
I have not received info from promoters. I asked one of them the same question and she told me that the tickets are still good. They can still be used for the concert if ever it will be moved to August.

Thanks for the note Mich.

Everyone,
I will make sure everybody gets an update about this.
