The doctor and the gangster

I remembered a story about a doctor who asked the gangster about a lawsuit that was filed against him months ago. The conversation was not verbatim but it went like this:
"The case was dropped.", the gangster replied. "Why what happened?", asked the doctor. "Well, he died.", answered the gangster. "What?", suspiciously exclaimed the doctor. The gangster added, "Yeah, he was found dead. Apparently, he killed himself; He shot himself in the back."
