Title: The 17 Indisputable LAWS OF TEAMWORK
Author: John C Maxwell
Believe-it-or-not I started reading this book three or four years ago and I just finished it last night. Why? Because back then when I started reading it I found the ideas presented to be OK. By OK, I mean that the ideas are good but it is something I could not use as of the moment. And there are just times that you don’t want to read an OK book you want to read a more than OK book (my term for an idea that I can use NOW). So after finishing the first and second law of teamwork I put the book down and shelved it. Back then I was not handling a team so I felt that could not relate to The Law of Significance and the Law of The Big Picture. Back then my foresight was still very limited and I did not think that reading about before-hand will come in handy later. I was dead wrong.
When I was assigned a team in the office I already forgot that I had a book on teamwork. It was later when I felt that my team was stagnated and there were issues in my team I could no longer address. I was in dire need of insight when I remembered this book. I read and read and found a lot of team issues that I was experiencing. It prompted me to read some more and try some ideas that was suggested in the book such as in the Law of the Chain and the Law of the Catalyst. Some of them worked immediately and some of them took time. Some ideas like “The Law of the Bad Apple” gave me a new perspective on the role of a leader in a team. Some of the ideas I’ve read I’ve shared it to my officemate – a fellow leader who likes the idea so much. Now the book became an easy reading and the ideas I found in the book gave me a better picture of my role as a leader and as a team member. I have to admit I am still working on some mental and attitude changes that is required of me to be a better leader but the information that I gain is very beneficial for me and for my team. I think this book should be a handbook for every team leader or team member who wants to empower his team. I certainly will review this book and refer to it as many times as I can as I grow and study teamwork and leadership. Let me quote John Maxwell to end this article, “The 17 Indisputable Laws of Teamwork, embrace them and empower your team.”
